Gnu-Rauå

Stavanger's most unnecessary monument — and why it matters

Gnu-Rauå — the backside framed in gold

Gnu-Rauå is exactly what you think it is: the backside of a gnu, framed in gold, hung on the wall. Foam, fur and pride. It's absurd, it's unnecessary, and it's absolutely perfect.

After 27 years separated from the head, the backside has finally found its place on the wall. And with that, Gnu became a little more whole. Not a whole gnu, but at least more than the sum of its parts.

Welcome to the monument nobody saw coming, but everyone needs. Cheers to the backside.
